The Art of Makeup Round 2

Soo, I just wrapped my 2nd makeup workshop called "The Art of Makeup" at the College of Southern Nevada.  I have to say, I LOVE teaching!  It is so fulfilling to be a part of making someone feel good about themselves.  When I meet a woman who feels terrible because she hasn't a clue about makeup but genuinely wants to learn to make herself look good and can do just that by the end of my class.... that makes me feel really good.  Like in some small way, I make a difference.  I am excited to say that my 3rd workshop will be in the summer semester this year in July and that instead of four 2hr classes, it will be two 4hr Saturday afternoon classes!  I've also been talking with various sponsors and I am just super excited for this 3rd class!  Keep checking www.syclark-makeupartist/Pretty-SyC.html for all the details!

Here is a pic with me and a few of my students...

Grammy Girl

I had the pleasure to work to glam up B. Taylor and his date, Whitney, for the Grammys this year in Hollywood.  Me and my Glam Fam:  Elliott Chester - Master Barber, Wardrobe Stylist and Owner of Elliott & Co. here in Vegas along with Fabulous Hairstylist, Nicole Vitole, headed westward into LA LA Land for the chaos that is Grammys weekend.

GO FAST! With Sy Clark

So, not too long ago, I partnered with my Photographer friend Jamie Thomson in creating my DOPE logo. Well, while at it, I decided to add something fun that really captures a part of my personality... my Go Fast energy drink! LOL. ANYone who knows me, knows I am a COMPLETE Go Fast addict. If I could get away with drinking only Go Fast, I would. So, I saved all my Go Fast cans for like 3 weeks, which summed up to about 100...( see told ya, complete addict) and creatively directed some photos to include them in.

I sent Go Fast a few of the final shots and in return, they sent me a case of Go Fast and added me onto one of their Facebook promos! LOL... I LOVE GO FAST!

Get "Taken" Behind the Scenes!

First let me just say that I am quite honored to be a part of welcoming new Artist, Lee Lee into the industry.  We are finally in the final stages in the editing process of Lee Lee’s music video for her 1st single, “Taken” featuring Baby Bash. I had sooo much fun working on this project! I LOVE my little Lee Lee cupcake! This girl is not only one of the funniest, wittiest, nicest, prettiest, most sarcastic, people I know, she can also flex a tune or two… She is my magical print-mixing life partner! ……….

Vegas Rocks! Magazine Award Show Highlights....

Hey Rockers!

Here’s the video from the FIRST EVER Vegas Rocks! Magazine Award Show that I am quite proud to have worked on last August!! The Publishing Queen of Rock, Sally Steele, was a doll to work with, even at the most cluster-#@!ed moments of the night! She single-handedly put this entire event together, and that’s amazing. I blogged about the event last year, check it out! I am also so very grateful to have met and worked with Award winning Celebrity Barber, Jay Bee. Friends always! *HUGS*. Look closely and you can see me and Jay Bee posted in the back just off the red carpet, LOL. Enjoy!

Sy & The Proust Questionnaire

Soooo the infamous Proust Questionnaire is about ones personality. In the late 19th century, it was common among English families to answer such a list of questions that revealed the tastes and aspirations of the taker.

A similar questionnaire is regularly seen in the back pages of Vanity Fair Magazine answered by various celebrities and both Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have included their own sets of responses in their book, “Influence”.

Because I’m equally as fabulous, lol, I decided to answer the questionnaire at the start of each year.

HAPPY 2011!!

Heeey everyone!!! Hope you all had a nice holiday season and a fabulous new year! I actually spent my News Years Eve alone and regrouping. I just wasn’t into partying it up this year. Felt like I just needed some alone time to create the right path for this new year. Reflecting on mistakes I made or things I just could’ve done differently and how to rise above and beyond them, correct them and reemerge as something even more spectacular! Not setting “resolutions” but simply swapping bad habits for good ones.

One of my biggest problems last year was procrastination. Procrastination is my devil and he definitely held me down. Being unorganized is…was… another one of my fallbacks. For me, procrastination leads to disorganization leads to just feeling overwhelmed and scatterbrained. Everything stems from usually just one thing. Fixing the problem starts with recognizing the main issue. I am happy to say that I have developed for myself a “grid of organization“….

This year has had an absolutely amazing beginning!!! Soo much is going on and I’m holding on tight for the ride. Anything is possible! Things are finally fitting into place…

Music Videos, Runway Shows, RAW Showcase, Workshops....
Stay tuned for some amazing adventures this year!

Master of the Mix

The Master of the Mix is a current reality type show hosted by legends Biz Markie and Kid Capri where a handful of DJs from across the country get to battle it out. TAO Beach here in Las Vegas, set the scene for episode #2. The show just started airing on Nov. 3rd, so I can finally share! I was invited to the production by a DJ friend to come down and enjoy free drinks and good music.

I had only planned on going to do a little bit of networking and make some good contacts, which I did... Got to meet the wicked DJ Jazzy Joyce and Biz Markie. Got to chop it up with long time friend, Kid Capri.. and, best of all, I was able to meet the CREATOR of the show itself! Good stuff!! Funny thing is, they asked me to be a part of the crowd, but then placed me front and dead center! LOL. Sooo below is a clip from episode 2. You can see me alot getting my groove on.

Show airs every Saturday on BET at 12:00a

1st ever Vegas Rocks! Magazine Award Show

Vegas Rocks! Magazine Award Show, baby!! I must first say that it is an honor to have participated in the FIRST EVER Vegas Rocks! Award Show. Rock ‘n’ Roll Red Carpet and stage left status. I was there to tend to the makeup, hair and wardrobe for the Publishing Queen of Rock, Sally Steele. Hanging out backstage and in the Green Room with the likes of legend, Otis Day and pulled into a tightly wrapped hug by the funny Flava Flav. Now, I tried to wipe the glisten of sweat from Flavs face but he stopped me with the Quote of the Night: “nah baby, I gots to get mah shine on, dis mah natural shine.“LOL. Gotta love Flava Flav! I must say though, that the highlight of this event was getting to meet AND work with the MASTER CELEBRITY BARBER, Mr. Jay Bivens! Such an honor to have you on my glam squad!

My First Makeup Workshop!!

ARE YOU READY?! I am finally finally doing my FIRST EVER makeup workshop! I am so super excited. I am holding my workshop at The College of Southern Nevada this fall semester for two weeks in October. This particular publication is sent out to roughly 300,000 homes and businesses … and that means, my name reaching approximately 300,000 people… oooo I hope for some good fallback from this!!! I have already had people contact me that know me and had to say something… I keep saying its exciting but … THIS IS EXCITING DAMN IT!!

My workshop is going to be really cool too. I wanted to do something different. Anyone who knows me knows that I am much more an Avant-Gard Makeup Artist. I am about all things abstract, off-the-wall and high fashion. I tell people all the time, I am NOT a Makeup Artis rather, I AM an Artist with Makeup. For me, makeup has always been more of an art form as oppose to just another way to be glamorous. I find my inspiration in everything from the color of a car to a single word I might hear.

So, yes, in this class, you will learn to give a smokey eye… but, more importantly, I want you to walk away having found your own niche of creativity. I want you to learn to lose the boundaries and so-called rules and to think outside the box. To not care what others MIGHT say and trust your own creative instincts. In this class, ANYTHING GOES! In the final class, I will be bringing in a photographer and holding a photoshoot for the students and their work! Sounds fun, right!!?? CAN’T WAIT!!!

REGISTRATION BEGINS AUGUST 18TH Call 702-651-5790 or visit www.csn.edu/workforce

Its Good To Be Bad!

STOP HERE… NOW go and pick up the August Nightlife issue of 944.

Got it?? Cool… Now turn to page 35 and begin your meet and greet with a few of some Vegas badasses!! Three separate shoots to complete the spread that couldn’t have gone smoother. Like a tasty lasagna, we had a sweet blend of crew that included Photographer, Bryan Hainer, who is such a cool guy and a pleasure to work with. You gotta check out his work at www.bryanhainer.com, Stylist Katie Cewe who is owner, designer and buyer for her boutique in Downtown Las Vegas called The Gypsy Den. She made that wicked headdress personally for Steve. She gave me the coolest gift. This necklace she made herself with turquoise fringe… soo pretty, I totally wear it with just about everything! and of course, Yours Truly for Makeup and some light hair! The talents speak for themselves, like the multi-talented Josh Strickland, star of Peep Show Las Vegas at Planet Hollywood with Holly Madison… World famous DJ Steve Aoki, producer and record label owner…. And more! Check out the article for some cool interviews by: Jack Colton!!!!

Playtime with JM Magazine

HOLA!! I’m back up in this BIAtch! Got super crazy busy (which is good), but I’m as you can see I’m still struggling with that balance thingy… My equalibrium is in some need of fine tuning. I get so easily overwhelmed. Blah ba blah blah blah..

AnyWHOOOO, I’m super proud of my JM Magazine Cover out this month that I did with super “urban” model, Rosa Acosta! Some of you may remember me talking or tweeting about the shoot that took place back in February during Superbowl weekend. Such a fun shoot and after party. I mean, what better then to go from photo shoot to star studded Superbowl party?!?!? Sheez Louise! James Mark, the Editor and Chief of JM or Just Models Magazine is the coolest dude to work with. Shooting approximately 10 models with 3 photographers from around the country in 2 separate mansions. What could have easily been extreme chaos, turned out to be anything but. James provided room and board to all the crew, ordered in a personal chef to make us lunch and had a driver for me to get me between the 2 locations. Talk about STYLE! I also must say and give shouts to some rising stars, Models: Rosa Acosta and Sue Lynn (another cover with her soon to come :)) and Photographers: Chase Hattan, Paul Cobo and Joel Alvarez.

After we wrapped shooting on the 2nd day, James had me driven from mansion #1 to his Superbowl party taking place at mansion #2. Red Carpet status, Wire Image photographers, Celebrity appearances… by far my coolest superbowl party (well, maaaybe except for the when the Broncos whupped that ass.. But that’s another story).

Enjoy the pics and afterparty video preview!!

Finding Your Passion

So on twitter about a week ago, we got into a discussion about following your dreams and passions. Basically it started from a comment made that “if you have face and/or neck tattoos, then you’ve pretty much given up on Corporate America…. My response to that was, well, what if you never WANTED corporate America? The conversation went on to talk about, that, well, in the mean time of finding your passion, if you have to get a job that has to be in any type of an office then your chances are pretty much shot at getting it. And even though, yes, there is some degree of truth in that… I guess I just wanted to elaborate on the sad fact that more of us shouldn’t settle for jobs like that. If that’s not what you want to do, then DON’T DO IT. Ya know, its about taking control of your life and following your dreams.

One of the comments made toward me at the end of the conversation was that, I happen to be one of the lucky ones that found their passion early. And I felt I just needed correct that assumption, because really, quite contrary to that… I didn’t.. Believe it or not I started college back in ‘99 for Criminal Justice. I wanted to be a crime scene investigator (before it became a trend, lol) . And look at that, I went from Criminal Justice to the whole other end of the spectrum and landed in Makeup Artistry. And you know why? Because like so many, I didn’t know what the hell I wanted to do… but unlike so many, I took control of that. And I took that control any way that I could. I basically created a plan for myself to determine my passion. That plan involved looking back in my life and realizing that soo many things in our lives come and go. Interests, favorites, tastes, styles, hobbies, desires, likes, dislikes.. As time goes by and we get older these things change, yet if we can find the one constant thing.. The one thing that you’ve always loved to do… the one thing that’s always made you smile and the one thing that you’ve never gotten tired of over the years. When you can find the one thing that does not come and go… then you can find your true self and your true passion.

So, call me a bitch, but in all honesty… I think its bullshit when people bitch, whine and moan about not knowing what to do with their lives… I think its because they’re just not putting enough thought into it. Your living day to day in confusion rather taking the necessary steps to narrowing down what you really want to do… your passion. And of course for some people it will happen much quicker then for others… However it’s a process of progress that each of us who aren’t blessed with “knowing” should realize and do.

My Little Intro

OK, SO HERE WE GO yes it has taken me a VERY long time to get this up and running…. And yes, because I can get very scatterbrained and very overwhelmed with a lot of stuff. As much as I try to stay organized, its like the least I stay organized. Soo your’re going to have to bare with me and I am even going to thank you in advance for your patience because… ya just because, and we’ll leave it at that. Lol.

Anyways... So I’m gonna start this blog off by saying just a little bit about myself. A kinda introduction, if I may.. I am a Makeup Artist out of Las Vegas and Los Angeles and have been so for the past 8yrs. I have worked in all sorts of mediums from music videos with Snoop Dogg & Chingy to, most recently, a TV pilot for CBS with Actor/Comedian Harland Williams… that hopefully comes into fruition… Now, even though I’ve done lots of amazing stuff and worked with some awesome and very talented people, I still consider myself a “starving artist”. I feel like I haven’t quite made it, in my opinion, to the success I want to have. I have come a long way but I still have a very long way to go. So lets think of this blog as sort of a “Diary of a Rising Makeup Artist” . I will take you on location with me thru behind-the-scenes pics. I will share my joys and frustrations on trying to reach the top of my game and my daily life. We will laugh at my ‘WTFs’s and party with celebrity friends. You’ll enjoy my contests and keeping dated on events! What we are going to talk about is EVERYTHING… every thing that’s on my mind. Like I said before, I’m a bit of a scatterbrain so I can jump thru lots of different things… LOTS of different things! …. and I take lots of pics J

Lots of new stuff up ahead in my career, along with the TV pilot that I’m crossing my fingers for, I have lots of projects ranging from fitness videos to my own personal makeup tutorials (which I am VERY excited for!!) .. so, again, just stay tuned and again I just wanna thank you for your patience and visiting my page … just bare with me here, ya know, I have so much going on that I can easily get unorganized and that‘s something I‘m going to start working on… as a matter of fact, that sounds like a good subject to start on! COMING UP, ENTREPENUAR ORGANIZATION
